About the Citizen and Community Science Library Network

The Library Network supports libraries and community-based organizations in becoming community hubs for citizen and community science – places where people can connect, learn, and contribute to real scientific research. Through turnkey resources, professional development, a global network for sharing best practices, and co-created programs, the Network empowers librarians and staff to engage their users in discovery and civic action together.

Why libraries?

Libraries are natural hubs for citizen and community science. As trusted, accessible community spaces, they can help people discover opportunities to participate in real research while providing the resources, support, and connections that make participation easier. Citizen science can complement the work libraries are already doing around lifelong learning, STEM engagement, community connection, and access to information.

SciStarter and Arizona State University have worked alongside libraries and community partners to develop and evaluate resources that help libraries bring citizen science to their communities. What began with a small group of pilot libraries has grown into a network of libraries using citizen science in ways that fit their own communities, from circulating kits and hosting programs to connecting patrons with projects they can participate in anywhere.
